A TRIUMPH FOR
MOIRA GORDON

Scotland on Sunday captures coveted
Jim Rodger Memorial Award

JOURNALIST Moira Gordon and Scotland on Sunday have won the prestigious Jim Rodger Memorial Award.

Moira (30) was chosen as this year's best young sports journalist in Scotland.

The accolade comes with a cheque for £1000 and the magnificent Jim Rodger Memorial Trophy.

Her triumph was announced at the Glasgow and West of Scotland Newspaper Press Fund Lunch held in Glasgow on May 14.

The award was set up five years ago to honour the late veteran journalist Jim Rodger with the full support of his family and is financially supported by the leading newspapers of Scotland - the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail; Associated Newspapers; News International (Scotland); Scotsman Publications and the Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times.

Sports journalists aged 35 and under working on a Scottish daily, Sunday or evening paper are eligible to enter.

Moira won this year for two articles on Rubens Barrichello and football manager Jim Duffy.

This year's judges were broadcaster Fred MacAulay, distinguished sports journalist Ian Paul and Ross Wilson of the Newspaper Press Fund.

Ross Wilson said: "We chose Moira unanimously. In our evaluation, she created a finely sketched portrait of Barrichello at the same time evoking the sights and smells of Formula One racing. Her piece on Jim Duffy brilliantly captured the despair and courage of a manager whose club is in administration. We congratulate Moira and Scotland on Sunday on this superb triumph."
